My dear students,
How are you?
Don't forget practice.
Let's get into the lesson , shall we?
DESCRIPTIONS:
Read this and ask as many questions as possible.
SPARROW:
This is a house sparrow. It is a very common bird found in most parts of the world. It is a small bird. It weighs 24 - 40 grams. Its length is only 16cm. It has a smooth and rounded head. It has a full chest. Its short and stout nose is called 'bill'. Its tail is short. Female sparrows are shorter than the male ones. Their plumage is coloured grey and brown. Female and male birds can be easily distinguished by their feather colouration. House sparrows mainly eat grains, seeds, insects, fruit and small vertebrates. They are mostly granivorous as well as omnivorous. Sparrows used to move, hop and chirp in and around us. It was a very common sight once.
NOTES AND EXPLANATION:
A. MEANINGS:
1. weigh (verb) = have a weight of = బరువు ఉండటం
*I weigh 70 kgs.
*How much does she weigh?
This question can be asked in this way also.
*What is her weight?
*weight is a noun
If you add ‘t’ to the verb weigh, it becomes a noun. By using ‘weigh’ and ‘weight’ we can ask questions. Learn these and use them in your conversations.
B. USAGE:
Some other important uses of Weigh
1. to measure how much heavy something is = ఒక వస్తువు లేదా ఒకరి బరువు తూచటం, తూచుకోవటం
*Weigh this Tamarind, Redgram and Jaggery.
*You should weigh yourself periodically.
*to consider carefully.
*Weigh your decision before you put it into practice.
2. plumage = a bird's all feathers collectively = ఒక పక్షి మొత్తం రెక్కలు.
*The peacock has a colourful plumage.
C. GRAMMAR POINTS:
*Female sparrows are shorter than the male ones.
If you observe carefully, there is a comparison here. The size of the female and male sparrows is compared. Whenever you want to compare two things or people, we use COMPARATIVE DEGREE.
Here short is an adjective. By adding ‘er’ to it, we get a COMPARATIVE form. Look at these:
*Short + er = Shorter
Old + er = Older
Tall + er =Taller
High + er = higher
Some example sentences:
*Prasad is older than Chandra.
*Your house is bigger than mine. (my house)
*This building is higher than that one. (building.)
